Gallio PRO is good software. It runs fully offline on your own machine, which is exactly what you want if you are a police force or a hospital that cannot upload anything, anywhere.
But it starts at €109 a month — €89 if you pay for a year up front — you have to install it, and it only auto-detects two things: faces and license plates. Everything else, a tattoo, a logo, a name badge, text on a screen, you draw by hand.

Why people look for a Gallio alternative
The price only makes sense at volume. €109 a month month-to-month, or €89 if you commit to a year. There is nothing below that. Redact twenty photos a month and you are paying about €5.45 each. Redact three and you are paying about €36 each.
The free demo cannot be used for work. It watermarks the output, caps you at 720p, and the licence says personal and non-commercial use only. So you cannot test it on a real job, and you cannot quietly use it for a small one.
Two detection classes is narrow. Faces and plates cover a lot of surveillance footage. They do not cover a press photo where the problem is a visible company logo, a court exhibit where the problem is a tattoo, or a screenshot where the problem is readable text. Gallio handles all of those, but you draw each region yourself.
It is a desktop install. That means IT approval and a machine that meets the spec. On macOS it requires Apple Silicon — Intel Macs are not supported.
Four file formats. JPG and PNG for images, MP4 and MOV for video. No HEIC, so photos straight off an iPhone need converting first.
When Gallio is still the right choice
Some of you should stay where you are, and it is worth saying so plainly.
The files cannot leave your building. Gallio processes everything locally and works air-gapped. BlindSpot uploads to a server and keeps the file in your History until you delete it. If you are handling evidence, patient data, or anything under a policy that forbids cloud processing, that is the end of the conversation — use Gallio.
You have video. BlindSpot does not do video at all. Gallio does, up to 8K.
You need batch processing. Gallio takes a folder and works through it. BlindSpot is one image at a time today, so a big folder is a bad fit for us.
You process hundreds of files a month. At that volume a flat monthly fee beats paying per image, and it is not close.
You want one tool for stills and CCTV footage. A single licence covering both is worth something.
